What is Karma? Is it your destiny? Is it your cosmic bank account of all your good deeds? Is it something you’re born with? Is it your stored trauma? Is it all in your head? Is it all your fault? Is it a Taylor Swift song?
Karma is one of the most significant yet often misunderstood concepts in Buddhism. The word itself means "action" and speaks to the deep interconnection between cause and effect—how the situations we face arise and evolve over time.
Karma is a buzz word that gets defined so vaguely, but in Buddhist thought it has a very specific and very detailed meaning. It is more about the patterns of our habits, the scripts we follow when faced with familiar challenges, and how we can begin to change those patterns through awareness and practice.
Join authors and teachers Ethan Nichtern and Sah D’Simone for a free online talk exploring common cultural misconceptions about karma, how we experience it in meditation and daily life, and the tools Buddhism offers to work with it effectively.
They'll also discuss the upcoming Yearlong Buddhist Studies Course starting in January 2025. This twelve-month online course will be a deep dive into contemporary Buddhism and its practices, applying them to modern-day topics and our everyday lives.

STUDENT FEEDBACK ON THE YEARLONG BUDDHIST STUDIES COURSE
"This is so hard to put into words. I have gained so much from this past year through the year long study. I have gained a deeper practice, become more in touch with myself, and gained a better understanding of the world around me. I am so grateful for this course and all the nuggets of wisdom I was able to take away."
“The online course allowed this full time working mom to have access to the dharma and a sangha in a way that would be otherwise impossible. When the stars align and I can attend the live class, Ethan and his guests are engaging and interactive. The break out sessions are also insightful. Definitely worth investing the time and money.”
"It was a lovely opportunity to engage with a variety of Buddhist traditions and practices, to share my understanding of Dharma with others, and to learn with other practitioners about how we each can bring the teachings to bear on our inner and outer lives."
