EPISODE 5: YOU CAN'T SERVE FROM AN EMPTY PLATE
Yoga instructors Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman Yee join David for a conversation around nurturing creativity and integrating our spiritual calling with our livelihood.
You Can’t Serve From An Empty Plate
How do we reconcile our creative or spiritual calling with our need to make a living wage? Colleen, Rodney and David explore this question and talk about some of the stigmas around the crossroads of spirituality and the marketplace.
“It is so interesting how, a lot of times, the general public thinks that if you are in the ‘spiritual profession’ that you shouldn’t be able to pay your rent. That somehow it is less spiritual if it is actually your career and your livelihood. I think that is changing now. People are realizing that it is a business. It is a career and a livelihood, and that does not make it any less spiritual.” – Colleen Saidman Yee
Everything is Relationship (14:05)
Rodney and Colleen talk about the lessons they have learned, through their relationship with each other, about the interconnected web of roles and relationships. They examine how the ways we relate to failure and success inform who we are.
Mindful of the Carrot (39:05)
David speaks with Colleen and Rodney about being mindful of our patterns and the intention behind our goals. They talk about the messaging so many people get from society that they are not enough.
“The sick part of living in a capitalistic world is that it feels like we always have a carrot in front of us.” – Rodney Yee
